About

My name is Arwen. I am a book lover and a blog lover so I thought what better than combining the two and making my very own book blog.

What This Blog Is and What It Isn't

This blog is a mixture of reviews and ramblings. It is not an in-depth review blog, I won't be going into immense detail about characters, plot and the quality of writing. Nor will it prove much of a study aid to anyone hoping I might be providing the answers to an English Literature essay.

There will be reviews, but I plan to keep them short and sweet. I will talk about some of my favourites and maybe even some of my not so favourites and I will review books I have read. I hope to give you enough of a taste to decide if you want to try the book yourself, but not so much that you feel like you have already read it.

This blog will not just be about my books. I have a four-year-old who loves books so I hope to throw a few children's books into the mix and maybe even let you in on what my husband is reading - although this may be mainly car magazines.

This blog is not a sales pitch - yes, I will write reviews and yes, I will include Amazon links where appropriate. These will be affiliate links so if you choose to purchase the book via the link I will make some money. However, if you choose to purchase the book elsewhere, get it out your local library or borrow it from a friend then that's fine too. Just leave me a comment so I can bask in the warm glow of knowing I have shared the reading bug with others.

I hope to make this blog not just about books, but about reading, literature, the culture of books and more.

Lastly I hope this blog will be a two way street. What I hope it won't be is me spouting my views into cyberspace. I hope for interaction. Tell me what you think, even if you disagree, and leave your favourites for me to add to my reading list.

About Me

This is me
My name is Arwen (I think I might have already said that) and I live in New Zealand with my husband and son.

I have a degree in English and American Literature and worked as a newspaper journalist before becoming a freelance writer.

My mum taught me to read before I started school and I have always loved reading. After spending three years reading literature for study, I rebelled for a while and read only non-fiction. Now I read anything and everything and will always try new things even if I only get a few pages in before deciding they are not for me.

I am now also able to experience the joy of reading to my son and being there as he begins the journey of learning to read for himself.

I blog about parenting an only child at The Power of 3 which makes me a mom blogger amongst other things. I also write for several websites both under my own name and as a ghostwriter.  If you want to hire me to write for your blog or website, then get in touch via the contact form and I'll be happy to discuss your project.
